Dostinex or its generic, Cabergoline, is a dopamine agonist. It is prescribed as the trigger portion of the cycle begins and lasts for about a week after the retrieval. Dostinex helps prevent a condition called Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) that can occur when the ovaries become overstimulated during fertility treatments. Dostinex and Cabergoline do this mimicking dopamine and thus inhibiting the release of prolactin from the pituitary gland. The medication is tablet form but is taken vaginally.
